3D WEEK 3

Part 1: Our fist task was to create mind map concerned with birthday presents. Then we created big poster presenting our memories and gifts.

Part 2: We've connected all our work by cutting our previous posters. That way we made big installation, which shows all our birthdays bring together.

Part 3: Our next task was to rework our last piece in something different. I've done collage which cumulate all my birthday presents into one.

 MY EXPERIMENTATION WITH PHOTOSHOP :

Part 4: We've been working with hot glue, noodles and balls.

3D week was new experience for me, because I have never been working with 3D constructions. I enjoyed building noodle thing, but sometimes I felt like I'm to impatient to do that kind of work.

WEARABLE ART- FINAL LOOK

Project from Fashion and Textiles is called "wearable art'. We were supposed to make a piece of wardrobe using only paper. On fashion design workshops I've done a dress using only paper, pins and tape. The whole process of designing took me 2 days. On the first day I did some research. For my main inspiration I took Yayoi Kusama, who is a Japanese artist. I was inspired by the shapes that we can see on her paintings. They reminded me about cubistic painters, like Pablo Picasso which I admire and have recently seen in Tate Modern. On the next stage, which was creating dress from paper. I decided to cut and fold paper in different shapes. I wanted my dress to be geometric and based on different kinds of triangles. Last stage was photoshoot. I was inspired by new Bjork music video to 'The Gate'. To be honest I'm not really happy with effects, because my dress was broken and I had really small amount of time to do it (an hour). If I will have more time I definitely would use my camera for taking photos (this ones were taken using my phone). I don't think that I will stay with idea of dark, colourful, bright light, surely I would do it more precisely, but I think that effect is really kitshy.

FASHION

This week we've been doing fashion. I was really excited to see how this week will be looking like. Before foundation I was thinking about doing fashion design, but I didn't have base for that, and I wasn't sure if I am good enough. This week showed me that I really enjoy working on the stand I felt really comfortable using different materials and doing research about artists and latest fashion trends. I worked on my own and I felt really good with that. Actually I realised that I prefer working by myself. It makes me more comfortable and enables me to do develop whole process of creating things as I want. I found fashion design more interesting that fashion promotion, because of the time pressure. I don't have to much experience in that kind of assessment so today workshops from fashion promotion were really stressful. Also thats my first sketchbook that I have ever made, so I feel that I need to work on that more. But I need time for that. I'm trying to keep up with my blog, but I never know how to start. Now I will try to do it daily and to write here my whole thinking process.

LBM WEEK

During this week we've been working on the project called 'framing the world'. On Monday we did photography workshops, Tuesday was film and Friday animation. First of all I was really excited about that opportunity, but by the end of the week I realised that animation is not really for me. I think I'm easily getting bored. Although I found interesting photography and film, but I want to know the basics of the subject, by that I mean theory as well as some practise.
Here are some experiments that we've done:
1. LIGHT :

2. FRAMING:

3. SHAPES:
4. MATERIALS:

LBM WEEK

Last few days I spent on doing research about the most interesting photographers. I've tried to choose the most ground-breaking and fascinating ones. I've prepared some basic information about them and have chosen best known photos as I will try to put them in my artist-related sketchbook. I think photography might change mine perception of how I see the world. I've also seen old family pictures of my friend. It was so inspiring. They were made mostly by analogue  and polaroid cameras. Also I started filming my flatmates and our everyday life. It's really captivating because I live with four totally different people and I love observing how their behaviour is changing depending on the day, humour, weather. Despite all the dissimilarities we need to exist side-by-side as family.
(Ps. The film attached is from today film classes.)

ACADEMIC WRITING 1

ACADEMIC WRITING

PRACTICE REFLECTIVE WRITING
Choose a piece of art and answer the following questions:

  • Why did you choose it? Colours? Materials?
  • Did it have a message?
  • Did it challenge you? Why?
  • Media-acrylic, mixed, oil, photography, animation-how is it used?

Recently we visited the Tate modern. I really enjoyed the Soul of a Nation exhibition. I found a painting made by Archibald Motley incredibly interesting. It is an oil painting made onto canvas. The piece was created over a 10 year time period (1891-1981). The painting itself depicts a nightmare-like version of the nation, essentially symbolizing positive and negative aspects. I found that Motley used intriguing colors, which gave a surrealistic and original dimension to the work.

RESEARCH PROJECT

My first project was made with my 2 classmates, from things that we've found on the street. We used big, metal cage, mannequin, red paint, tape, black bin liner and flowers, that we've taken from the nearest park. We've made also a hanger by using wire and tape.
The project is about women's situation in Poland and their right to make a choice when it comes to abortion in extreme cases, such as rape and danger to their health. Moreover, it's also about having a right to decide about their own body. Hanger illustrates the most radical methods of abortion used long time ago. From the outside cage is not looking drastically. Flowers symbolise fragility of women and are an idealistic vision of government, who wants to ban and deprive women's freedom. Inside the cage we can see reality that this dramatic modifications might bring.

RESEARCH WEEK

That week I have spend on doing research to make my project. By doing that I found lot of really interesting artists, groups and organizations, that are connected with main topic which is called dissent and resistance. I was looking through my friends experience, exhibitions, painters, photographers and books. I was really interested in history of Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg and the book On the Round written by one of them.

EXHIBITION REVIEW

Recently, I have visited a few exhibitions connected with the main project about dissent and resistance.
First one was in The British Library called Gay UK: Love, Law, Liberty. I have also visited British Museum (Desire, Love, Identity), Tate Britain (Queer British Art: 1861-1967) and Tate Modern (Soul of a nation). The most interesting things from that was general look at social changes in the last 50 years. I've found there intriguing associations with my descent. I thought it would be really captivating way to tell something more about me and my country. Last year in Poland was really turbulent especially for Polish women. The government wanted to prohibit abortion in really radical cases such as rape and danger of death. They wanted also to change constitution using illegal methods. Our democracy became endangered. Majority of Polish people gathered together and went  to protest on the streets. First manifestation was called Black Monday. Everyone from my previous school (which is supporting freedom, feminism and is really into changes) along with my tutors didn't go to work and went outside fight for our rights. I'm doing research starting from conversations with my friends which are still active in that area, through reactions of Polish artistic society.
